A Spirited Tale of Pranks and Refreshment

Join us as we dive into the intriguing origin story of this timeless libation and explore why it continues to be a beloved classic in the world of mixology.
The Legend of Tom Collins
Legend has it that the Tom Collins cocktail originated from a playful game of wit and banter. Friends would approach each other, claiming they had just encountered a man named Tom Collins who had been spreading scandalous rumors.
Someone would ask their friend ‘Have you seen Tom Collins?’ The friend would often reply ‘Why no! I have never made his acquaintance.’ The first friend would then proceed with the joke ‘Perhaps you had better do so, and as quick as you can, for he is talking about you in a very rough manner, calling you hard names, and convincing people there is nothing you wouldn’t steal short of a red-hot stove.’
This would upset the second friend, who would stomp off to go looking for this Tom Collins, but plot twist! He didn’t actually exist. What started as a prank quickly gained popularity, as people eagerly joined in on the fun, spreading the word of this elusive character. And what better way to toast to this playful spirit than with a refreshing concoction that bears the name of the elusive Tom Collins himself?
The Tom Collins Experience
As the story spread like wildfire, it soon became a popular game of wits and banter. The classic Tom Collins cocktail is a delightful mix of gin, freshly squeezed lemon juice, simple syrup, and a generous splash of sparkling soda water. The result?
